That was a great chapter. I don't know who I want Skye to end up with. I mean Jax really loves her and wants her back, and Ned isn't sure if he loves her or not. But with Ned she has a wonderful little girl whom she adores. So I guess it's up to you, lol.

Thanks for all of your great replies. I'm sorry I couldn't post yesterday. Mondays are always way too busy.
Chapter 16 A week later... Ned was sitting in a GH waiting room. He was thinking about what V had asked him. He didnt really give her any kind of straight answer, because inside he didnt know the answer. Then, she went on to tell him, Jax still loves Skye. She explained to Ned how she had come to that conclusion, she had spent time observing Jaxs reactions to the subject of Skye, and she knew Jax almost as well as she knew herself, and she could see the truth. It didnt really surprise Ned, though. He knew that Jax still had feelings for Skye, but it really hadnt affected him. But as he sat there waiting, he couldnt help but wonder how strong the feelings were between Skye and Jax. Before Jax had left town, he had asked Ned to help Skye by giving her a job at ELQ. He told Ned not to worry that Skye knew they were just friends. He remembered Skye going off on a tantrum about just being friends once, and he remembered Jaxs constant use of the word friend. Maybe Jax was using the word to keep a distance from Skye. Ned knew that V was right, though. He shook his head, because while he was convinced that Jax still loved Skye, he was starting to fall for her himself. He took a deep breath and sighed. Jax was walking towards Vs room when he saw Ned. He plopped down on the seat next to him. Visit V yet, he asked. No. I...Im waiting for Skye. Something wrong? No. Just a check up, Ned made up what seemed to be a valid excuse. Oh. Ned saw Skye come out of the doctors office and he stood. She looked at him. She had so many emotions running through her that all she saw was Ned smiling at her. She walked over to him. I have a new family, she quietly said. She bit her lip, smiled, and cried all at once. Ned hugged her, and then she looked down to see a bewildered Jax sitting there on the couch behind Ned. Um, hi, he said. Jax, she said. Jax saw Rae and Chuck approaching. Rae, Chuck. Skye finally broke her hug from Ned. It turns out that it wasnt divine intervention or luck that I was able to donate the bone marrow for Vs transplant, she explained to Jax. Were sisters, half-sisters, actually. Jax swallowed. Does V know? Skye shook her head. Not yet. She turned to Chuck. I...how are you..., Skye tried to search for the question she intended to ask, but she was having a hard time thinking of the right way to ask. I would like to talk to her in private about this. He smiled at Skye. And then you can talk to your sister. He hugged his new daughter and kissed her on the forehead. I love you. Then he walked off to Vs hospital room. Skyes eyes welled up with tears. Its good to finally know the truth. Ned noticed the wounded look on Raes face, and he felt bad for her. He could tell that Skye had a death grip on her anger about being lied to. He couldnt blame her, but he didnt really see how he could blame Rae, either, especially considering his situation with baby Kristina. Rae, would you care to go for a walk, he asked. Id love to. Itd give me a chance to learn more about my new son-in-law, Rae answered. Ok. He turned to Skye. Well just be in the hospital garden. Ok? Ned kissed Skye on the cheek. She nodded, and Ned left with her mother. Skye turned to Jax. So, she said in extendedness, not sure what else there was to talk about. Congratulations, he offered. He then hugged her, but she pulled back. She was feeling very uncomfortable. Her man ran wild trying to think of something else to say to him. I guess I should thank you. Why? Well, if you hadnt brought my sister here, I may have never known the truth. Skye, if I had known, he started to say, then stopped himself. Im just glad that you know the truth. Skye smiled. It is refreshing. She sighed. You know, most of what I know about V came from you and Ned. Ive talked to her a handful of times, but I by no means have a way to gauge how shes going to take news like this. So, how do you think shell take this? Jax dug his hands in his pockets, trying to think about the situation and V being in the midst of it. He really had no clue how she would handle it. To be honest, Im not really sure. Its probably going to take some time for her to adjust. I suspect itll take you some time to adjust as well. V was listening to some music on her CD player, when Chuck walked into the hospital room. Pop. She took off her headphones and tossed them aside. She went over to her father and hugged him. Oh, you look like youre doing good, sweetheart. I feel better than I have in months. The doctors think that I might be able to get out of here early. Maybe in a couple of weeks. V smiled, then turned to sit down on the bed. Remind me to thank Skye, she said. She saved my life. So, you here to take a walk with me? I really would like to go out to the gardens. We can do that in a little while. I have something that I have to tell you, Chuck said, as he sat down next to her on the bed. What is it, she anxiously asked. Do you remember the stories I told you about being in the Navy? Of course. And Operation Dart? V nodded. Her father had told her what she thought was every single detail about his career in the Navy. She even remembered the operation names. Yes. I remember you telling me about that. Your plane was shot down. February of 65, Chuck said, thinking back to that terrible war and the terrible events that led to his returning home early on that ship with all of the other injured men. Why are you telling me about this, V asked. I mean, I know the story. You were captured and injured. Youve still got the shrapnel in your leg. Chuck shifted his weight. There was a reason for going back to the story, it was to explain what happened next. I never told you about when I came home, though. I came with all of the others that were injured in various battles and operations. You see how they come home now from the war over in the Middle East, and thats a far cry from what we came home to. There were few people, and even fewer friendly faces. In fact, there werent any. People spit on us and called us baby killers, and then I found a sympathetic face with a welcoming smile and a willingness to listen to what I had been through, Chuck said remembering the face of a young Gretel. Mom? No. I didnt meet you mother for a few more months. Chuck had a stray tear run down his face at the mention of Vs mother, they really didnt talk much about her, it had been too painful for both of them. V wiped the tear off her fathers face. He smiled at her, and grabbed her hand. He continued with his story, She was a kind girl. We went out that night and had some drinks. Probably too many, which is why I really...uh...I really dont drink. I... Are you trying to tell me that something happened between the two of you, she asked her father. He nodded. Why are you... V stopped mid-sentence. She had been a detective, and now every piece of the puzzle was coming together. It all went back to the transplant. Skyes my sister? Ned and Rae were walking through the hospital garden. Ned knew Rae was very hurt by the way Skye had treated her, he finally spoke up, Deep down, I have a feeling that Skye wants to reach out to you, but she just... She cant let herself do it, Rae finished the thought. She doesnt want to rely or depend on anyone. Can you blame her, Ned asked. She does and she gets let down. Rae stopped, she looked over at Ned. I deserved that, she said. Its not just you, though, Ned replied. The way she sees it, everyone has let her down at some point. Rae sighed. Thats why I told her that Alan was her father. I thought that he could give her all of the dependability that she needed. He was a man who she could trust. She could have the kind of father that so desperately needed. And, I, well, I didnt exactly know her father or even remember his name, she said. Rae looked down feeling very ashamed. Then looked up to ask Ned, Can Skye rely on you? Ned kind of looked up into the sky, he wasnt really sure how to answer the question. Then he looked at Rae. She has helped me so much since Kristina came into my life, I would be there for her. Do you love her? I care deeply for Skye, he said. Jax and Skye were sitting on the couch at the hospital. So were trapped in the storage cage at the hotel and shes telling me that she can figure a way out. She says, the best way to solve the problem is to first identify the problem. Like we didnt know what the problem was, Jax said laughing. Then of course, analyze the options, Jax said, Skye nodded along, as he continued his story about V, and act decisively. Very logical, Skye said, nothing like me. Jax laughed. Very annoying actually was what I was thinking at the time. Oh, so we do have something in common. Anyhow, Jax continued his story, I offered to boost her up through the gap at the top of the cage. So, I boost her up and she falls and I catch her. She looks up at me, and thinking back on it, it was the strangest look on her face. She turned and looked for her sheriffs department hat, because heaven forbid she be out of her uniform. Jax laughed at his memories of Vs sudden thrust into his life after he had been arrested for drug trafficking. But you did get out, apparently, Skye said. Yeah. I think I ended up picking the lock or something like that. I would say that V had a crush on you, Skye said, reflecting on the story. Yeah, Jax said remembering how he used to turn to find V following behind him like a little puppy dog. He smiled, then looked over at Skye. Hey, can you blame her, he joked. No, she said softly. She looked down, not believing she just said what she just said, then she looked back up at him, but instead of seeing what Jaxs feelings were on her comment, she saw Alan standing by the nurses station. She got up and went over to him. You busy, she asked. |

Chapter 17 | ||

Ok, you wanted more, here it is. I'm not sure how good it is though. To me it seems like the more recent chapters haven't been quite as good as the first chapters.
Oh, I hope I got Skye's Chandler familial history right. I didn't watch AMC (although I have recently started watching it), so I only know what I've read on the internet. Chapter 17 Skye had just come over to Alan at the nurses station. No. Im free. What is it, he asked. Something big happened, she started, and I wanted to be the one to tell you. Ive found out who my biological father is. Vs father, he asked. Skye nodded. I guess my being a match wasnt some sort of fluke. She looked down, she felt bad about the way things between her and Alan started out. And now, after he proclaimed that she was still his daughter, she was telling him that she had another father. She took a hold of his hands and looked up into his caring eyes. I want to thank you for everything you did for me. You were a good father to a horribly messed up adult. Im not sure how you put up with me. Skye, I want you to know that I will always love you and to me you will always be my daughter, Alan lovingly said. A tear ran down her face. I guess I should be grateful to my mother for bringing me to you. If I hadnt come to Port Charles, things, I dont know, they wouldnt be this good, would they. Now, Ive got three families. She laughed. And I have a good husband, an adorable little girl. Skye turned and looked over at Jax sitting on the couch. And a good friend. Im happy for you, Alan said. She turned back to him, and he hugged her. She held on to him tightly, as if it were goodbye. V sat on the edge of her hospital bed. She is my sister, she repeated. Yes, she is, sweetheart, Chuck answered. Are you ok? V had a blank look on her face. She wasnt really sure what she was feeling or how she was feeling. She had just been given the surprise of her life, and she wasnt sure how to feel about it. Um, yeah, I just...I..., she stammered. You know, this doesnt change anything, Chuck said, fearing that his daughter was disappointed in him. Except that I have a sister, she said still trying to grasp the idea. Youre angry? No. Im just...confused. Im sorry. You dont have anything to be sorry for, dad, she assured him. I just need to think about this, ok? Caring deeply for someone doesnt always translate to love, Rae said to Ned, as they stood in the hospital garden. Its kind of hard to open your heart up to someone else, Ned declared. Im sure that you know that, and I know Skye knows it. We both have been through more than our fair share of heartaches. But closing your heart off isnt the answer, Rae advised. You could miss out on something you never expected. Bit of your expert advice, Ned asked. Chuck walked over to Skye, who was now sitting on the couch with Jax. She looked up. How did it go, she asked. Chuck nodded. Good, I think. Do you think I could go talk to her now, Skye asked. Actually, she said she needed time to think. Jax stood up, he cleared his throat. Well, Im going to leave. Im just going to pop my head in Vs room and say hi to her. Jax walked off. Im going to go outside for a smoke, Chuck said, he started to walk off, Skye went to join him when Rae and Ned showed up. You dont smoke, Ned said to Skye, stopping her from following Chuck outside. I know, I was just going to talk to my father, Skye said. She sure as hell wasnt going to stand there and talk to her mother if she had a choice. Actually, Ned said, I need to talk to him. So, if you two will excuse me. Ned went after Chuck. Damn him, Skye said under her breath. Ulterior motives, Rae suggested. Look, I really dont want to talk to you, Skye said in anger. Ok, maybe you should listen then. I know that youre angry with me. I dont blame you, either. Skye, I thought I was doing something good for you. Thats all I ever wanted for you, something good. Alan was a very caring man. Kind and gentle. I always thought he would be the perfect father for my child. Not exactly perfect, but he tried. And I know that. But Alan did love you like his daughter, and thats what you needed. Someone to give you that unconditional love. Someone to be a father to you, to love you. Worts and all. Yeah, worts and all. Look, kid, I could probably say that I am sorry until Im blue in the face and it wouldnt change the way you feel. So what Im going to do is tell you that I love you. Skye looked down as Rae continued to speak. She was determined not to let Rae get to her. And I hope that some day not so far off you can forgive me and trust me. I do have to get back to Llanview, but if you ever need me for anything, anything at all, or you just want to talk, call me, please. Rae had tears running down her face. Skye bit her lip to keep her emotions in check. She nodded, still not looking at Rae. Bye. Goodbye. Rae hugged Skye, who stood still, not wanting to let her guard down. AJ stood at the desk in the Quartermaine den, looking at a calendar, counting days off, when Edward came into the room. AJ. Grandfather. AJ looked up. What in the devil are you up to, Edward asked. Tell me something grandfather. AJ approached the old man. How would you like to have Michael under this roof, again? Is that what marrying Alexis was about, he asked. Maybe. What does she get out of it? To see her daughter, thats all, AJ answered. And you think she can help you with Corinthos? AJ grinned. Oh, yeah, more than shell ever know. He laughed. Alice and Alexis walked into the foyer of the mansion with Kristina. Ms. Davis, I mean Mrs. Quartermaine, I really should take the baby back to the gatehouse before Mr. and Mrs. Ashton find out about this. Oh, ok. Thank you Alice. This means a lot to me. Even if I only get to see my daughter for a few minutes here or there, it almost makes everything else worth it. Skye stuck her head in Vs room. Jax and V were in the midst of what seemed to be a very amusing story, as they were laughing their heads off. She was about to close the door and leave, when V spotted her. Hi. Hi, Skye said, as though she were a little child caught with her hand in the cookie jar. She slowly walked into the room. I just...well, I have to get home and I just wanted to stop in. Jax turned to face Skye. I was just discussing your displays of self defense with your sister. And then we were having a laugh about her knocking Simon out with a bottle of champagne. Its really quite an amusing tale. Skye was lost in her own thoughts, so she hadnt really hard a word Jax had just said. Yeah. Well, maybe I should go. Jax hugged V, and on his way out, he hugged Skye, then left. I...uh..., Skye stammered. Were sisters, V simply said. Yes. Skye nodded. Tell me something, she said as she walked closer to the hospital bed. Are you ok with that? Ive always been an only child. It was kind of lonely growing up. You had siblings, didnt you? Actually, growing up, I didnt. I mean, I had a sister, Hayley, but I didnt know her and we didnt exactly end up getting along. I do have a little brother and sister from the Chandler portion of my life. Then, of course, you know the Quartermaine brood. I cant say that I was very good to any of them at the start. I did kind of bond with Emily before the bus accident. Skye thought about that with regret. Maybe this time I could get the whole sister and family thing right. I mean, they always say the third times the charm. Skye gave a hesitant smile. V stood up. Come here, she said to Skye. Skye walked over and V hugged her. I always wanted a big sister. Ned had come to the door and opened it to look in and see the emotional scene. Alexis walked into the den, where AJ was drinking some coffee. I just saw Edward and he didnt grumble at me. There is something extremely wrong with that, she said. Maybe hes grown tired of it, AJ suggested. Never. Anyhow, tell me, how did your meeting with Dara Jenson go? The word unethical was thrown around a lot. Alexis walked over to the bar and poured herself a drink. As well as the bar association. But, Alexis took a drink, Dara did eventually come around. So when everything is in place, shell be my lawyer, while you work the sidelines? Alexis nodded. |

A little side note: Ok, V makes a pretty fast recovery from her near death experience. But, hey, it's GH. One day you can be brought into the hospital and have brain surgery, the next day you can walk out looking like nothing ever happened.
Anyhow, replies are welcome. Chapter 18 4 weeks later... Skye waved to the guard at the gate of the Quartermaine estate, as she pulled onto the grounds with V in the passenger seat. V did a double take. Was that Lucky Spencer? Yes. Skye pulled up to the gatehouse. Hes going to the police academy. So, our father hired him as part of the security staff. She put the car in park. V sat there for a moment. Skye looked over at her, trying to figure out if she was going to get out of the car, or just sit there. You know, you and Ned probably have your hands full with Kristina. You dont need a guest getting in your way. Nonsense, Skye said. They both got out of the car. Right on time, Reginald, she said, as he approached the car. Reginald went to the trunk and pulled out a suitcase and a gym bag. Really, I think I can handle carrying my stuff in, V said. Let Reginald get it. Skye walked up to the house. V went over Reginald and took the gym bag. At least let me get this, she told Reginald and the two followed Skye up to the gatehouse. Its refreshing to have a guest here who travels light, Reginald said. Well, Im not exactly a clothes hound, V said. Certainly very different from your sister. She almost left Ned and I had to take all of her suitcases down the stairs only to have to haul all of them back up. I think there were at least twenty of them. Reginald and V laughed. Skye opened the front door and turned back to the two. Something funny? They both covered their mouths, trying to hide their laughter. No. Oh, really? Ill just take this up to your room, Reginald said, as he entered the house and went upstairs with Vs suitcase. Thanks Reginald, V said. Well, come on, Skye said, motioning for V to join her. V walked into the house. She looked around, noticing that it was very different from the original. Hmmm. Alice came into the front room with Kristina. Hello. Ah, perfect timing, Alice. Skye walked to Alice and took Kristina. She brought her over to V. Here she is. Little Kristina. Oh my goodness. She is everything you said. V admired the little girl. Edward came stomping into the house. You...you. Edward pointed at Skye. You have absconded with the servants, havent you? Why, Edward, what on earth do you mean, Skye said, playing innocent. Alice! He pointed at the maid/nanny. And Reginald! Reginald came downstairs. I was just carrying in Ms. Ardanowskis luggage, he said. Im sorry Mr. Quartermaine, V said. I really think I could have carried my suitcase in by myself, but Skye insisted. No, um, its ok, Edward said, feeling a bit guilty, seeing as how V had just gotten out of the hospital after a lengthy illness. But, it just seems to me, he said, looking at Skye, that the servants spend far too much time serving the wrong people. I mean, Reginald, who signs the paychecks? Actually, sir, I do. Everyone but Edward burst out laughing, as Edward was furious. You know, you two have duties to complete up at the main house, Edward said. Yes, sir, Alice said. She and Reginald left the gatehouse. Edward walked over to V. Ms. Ardanowski, it is nice to see you. I was glad to hear about your wonderful recovery. Edward smiled at her. Now, my dear, I suggest you watch your back around your newfound sister over there. He pointed over to Skye, then he walked out of the house. So, V said, wheres Ned? Out of town for a business meeting, which has been happening a lot lately. Im beginning to think Edward is plotting something with all of this out of town ELQ business that Neds having to do as of late. But, never mind that, Skye said, trying not to think of the usual aspects of Quartermaine life, like blackmail and plotting. Would you like to hold Kristina? Um, sure, I guess. Im not exactly a baby person, but I think I could manage. Skye handed Kristina over to V. Hi. V smiled down at the child, as she held her. Skye watched. See, youre a natural. Yeah, someone else said. They turned to see AJ and Alexis standing in the doorway. So how is my little cousin doing today, AJ asked. Skye stepped between the door and V. Just fine, AJ. What are the two of you doing here? Just came by to see how your new sister was doing, AJ said. Alexis? Dropping by to say hello to an old friend, she said. V put Kristina in her crib and walked over to Alexis. Im good. Hello Alexis. I understand that congratulations are in order. AJ and Alexis nodded, as if to accept her congratulations. Well, ok, its nice seeing you two, Skyes statement, dripping with sarcasm. Youve accomplished your mission, so have a nice day. Skye slammed the door shut. Skye started to walk back over to Kristina, when there was a knock at the door. What now? She turned back and swung the door open, expecting another one of the Quartermaines to be at the door. Jax! Hello. Jax walked right into the house. Hi V. So, Skye, where is your husband? Out of town on ELQ business. Why? His secretary was telling the truth then. I didnt believe her. Hmph. That kind of puts a damper on my plan. Plan, V asked. Yes, um, lets see, Jax said rubbing his hands together, deciding what to do next. Skye, I could use your assistance. Ok, she said, bewildered. Jax walked out and Skye followed her. What is he up to, V asked outloud with no one there to answer. Skye came back into the house carrying two bags from the Grill. Jax came back in carrying a stack of pizza boxes. Im not sure exactly what Jax has planned, but apparently it has something to do with feeding an army, Skye joked. Jax laughed. Not exactly. See what happened was, I wasnt exactly sure what to chose because Im not sure about the other guests taste. I thought Id get a variety of pizzas, so that there were plenty of choices. As for the sacks from the Grill, I got some salad for the health conscious, and then in the other sack are a few of your favorite chocolate desserts, he said, looking over at V. Vs eyes got big. I cant wait. You dont know how much I have missed the chefs chocolate torte. It all sounds very nice, Jax, but who are these other guests and when do they get here, Skye asked. Hello, a voice called out from the gatehouse doorway. The three of them turned to see Rae and Chuck standing there. Pop. V went over and hugged her father. Skye stood there watching. She hadnt made up with Rae yet, and while Skye had gotten to know Chuck a little, she still felt like he was Vs father, first and foremost. Hello Skye, Chuck said. Hi, she said, being sure to keep a distance from her mother. Well, Jax said turning to Rae and Chuck, it appears that Ned is away on a business trip, so I guess this little family celebration will be a little short. Youre staying, arent you, V asked Jax. That an invitation, he asked. Well, Skye spoke up, I dont see the four of us eating all of that food. With you here wed be able to make a bigger dent. Good. Jax smiled. Because Im famished. He started for the kitchen and called back. V, why dont you come help me. Sure. V went into the kitchen with Jax. Skye stood out in the front room with Rae and Chuck. There was a long silence. Jax and V fumbled their way around the gatehouse kitchen, looking for plates and silverware. Jax, how do you feel about this whole Kristina thing? I mean, do you think Alexis should get to at least see her daughter? Yeah, I do. Jax pulled some plates out of a cabinet. But, I have a problem with the way Alexis is going about trying to make that happen. First, she plays crazy to get away with a murder that was clearly self defense. Then she pretends to be a butler, and now shes married AJ. And it all seems to go back to her sister Kristinas death. Jax paused. V got some drinks out of the refrigerator. She turned to him. Jax? I was just thinking that maybe Alexiss behavior goes back further. I mean the explanation for her behavior goes back further than Kristinas death. See, when Alexis was a child she tried to protect her sister from Helena Cassadine. She tried to hide her and when she went back for her sister, she was gone. And then Kristina was in this explosion at Sonny and Jasons coffee warehouse. Alexis didnt get there in time to stop her from going in. Maybe this all goes back to her fear of losing her sister and not being there for her. She wants to protect her daughter the way she couldnt protect her sister, Jax theorized. But Kristinas not in any danger here with Skye and Ned, V said. Try telling Alexis that. She has and probably always will live in fear of Helena and what she did to her mother. Rae and Chuck were standing next to Skye, all watching Kristina in her crib. She is a beautiful baby, Chuck commented. Would you like to hold her, dad, Skye asked. Chuck smiled. He had a tear running down his face. This woman that he didnt know over a month ago was his daughter and she was calling him dad, and he couldnt be any happier. Skye smiled back at him. Yes. Chuck picked Kristina up and held her lovingly. Rae and Skye watched him with such joy, then they turned to each other. Both were about to speak, but Skyes words came out first, Uh, mother, Id like to talk to you for a moment, alone. Rae nodded, and the two of them walked outside. |

Here's more. Thanks for your replies.
I hope that none of you were a victim of the Blackout. Chapter 19 Did you really have the pizzas flown in from Chicago, Chuck asked Jax, as they sat at the table, finishing the meal. Jax nodded, as he woofed down another piece of pizza. Jax can be really extravagant when it comes to his tastebuds, Skye said. Yeah, I remember one time the big guy had oysters flown in from Ireland, Ned said, as he walked into the house. Skye looked up and smiled. She walked over to him and they hugged. Missed you, he said. Hows Kristina? Good. Shes upstairs. Shes been a little cranky, but Im sure shell be better now that youre home. So, whats going on here, Ned asked, as he looked at the table where Jax, V, Rae, Chuck, and Lucky Spencer were sitting. He was really puzzled by the last guest. A little impromptu surprise family gathering that I put together, Jax said, as he wiped some pizza sauce off his face. And where exactly do you and Lucky fit into that family equation, Ned asked. I invited both of them to join us, V said. Skye could tell that Ned was tired from his trip and this big gathering wasnt exactly what he wanted to come home to. Theres still a lot of food left, Ned. If youre hungry, I could reheat some of the pizza. Theres also dessert left. I ate on the plane, he responded. Oh. I should be going, Lucky said. Thanks for the great food. Uh, it was very nice meeting you, Rae. It was a pleasure meeting you as well, Rae said. With that Lucky waved to everyone else and left. Jax, maybe we should clean up, V suggested. Jax looked at her a little puzzled. V grabbed the pizza boxes from the table, and dragged Jax into the kitchen. Chuck stood up. I had a really nice evening. I hope that we can have more evenings like tonight, he said to Skye. I really do want to know everything about you. Well, we have lots of time for that, Skye said. Yes. He smiled at his daughter, then hugged her. I love you. Skye cried. Here was a man who said those three words and she really believed it. He didnt look at her as a mistake and he didnt regret her being. The only thing that he regretted was not having known her, and now they had the chance to become father and daughter. She pulled back from him and they stared at each other for a few moments. Rae walked over and pulled Skye in front of her. She wiped away Skyes tears. Happiness, right, she said referring to the tears. Skye simply nodded. I love you, baby. Rae hugged her. Ready to go, Chuck asked Rae. Yes, Rae answered. Skye shot an interested look to her mother. Hes just driving me back to the hotel. Oh, ok. Good nights were exchanged between Rae, Chuck, and Ned, then Skyes parents left. Ned shut the door and turned back to Skye who was lost in a smile. From the looks of things, I missed out on a pretty big night. You and Rae buried the hatchet? It is kind of strange, isnt it? Im not exactly sure how it happened. My mother and father were looking at Kristina, and I asked him if he wanted to hold Kristina, and he was holding her and something happened. I looked over at my mother and I realized that everything I was holding against her was pointless. What good is holding a grudge going to do. I mean, in the grand scheme of things, she tried to do what she thought was right, even if it all turned out terribly wrong. I just let all of that hate go. It was kind of one of the magical moments, you know. Are you suggesting that Kristina is a magician, Ned joked. Skye playfully hit Ned on the arm. Maybe she just made me realize the importance of family. So, how was your business trip? Excruciating and unproductive. Im sorry. Im going to have to go back next week, he informed her with a sigh. Uh, Im going upstairs to look in on Kristina. He went up. Jax and V came out of the kitchen. Thanks for the party, Jax, V said to her pal. Skye turned. Yes, thanks, it was a great evening. It was my pleasure. Jax smiled as he looked at Skye and V together. He hugged them both and left. V sighed, then looked around. Wheres Ned? Upstairs. Hes looking in on Kristina. Im going to turn in myself. Good night. Night. V went upstairs. Skye went and sat down on the couch, reflecting on the events of the evening. Rae and Chuck got to the door of her room at the Port Charles Hotel. It was a lovely evening, she said. Yes, it was. He looked into her eyes. Rae, before you go in your room, I want to ask you something. Ok. Are you planning on coming back? To Port Charles? Chuck nodded. Ill come back anytime my daughter wants or needs me here. Im glad to hear that. He smiled. Then moved in and kissed her on the cheek. I hope that you have a safe trip back to Llanview. Skye was curled up on the couch asleep. She had her head resting on the arm. Ned came downstairs and walked over behind the couch. He looked down at her, then put his hand on her arm. Before he knew what was going on, he went flying through the air over the couch and hit his head on the corner of the coffee table. He held the back of his head, as he looked at Skye on the couch. Ow! Skye! Oh, god! Im sorry, Ned. I was asleep and you startled me and I... Yeah, I sorta guessed that, he said, rubbing the back of his head. Are you bleeding, she asked in the midst of a panic. I dont know. Skye got up and checked the back of Neds head. I dont see any blood. Uh, dont fall asleep on me, though. Maybe I should take you to the hospital. No. Ill be ok, he insisted. Ice! Yeah, that might help, he said, still feeling the blow from the corner of the coffee table to his head. Skye went into the kitchen and quickly came back with an ice pack for Ned. Here. He took it from her. Thanks. He got up and slowly sat down on the couch. Now, I think youre supposed to stay awake for an hour or something, Skye still feeling a little panicked about the situation, as well as a little guilty. Ned nodded. Skye sat down next to him. Im sorry. Where did you learn to do that, he asked. I took some self defense courses and Jax taught me a few things. Oh, well, I certainly wouldnt want to run into you in a dark alley. Yeah. Skye laughed. God, I dont know what got into me. I just... Its ok. Ned smiled at her. I just wont sneak up on you like that ever again. I saw you laying there and I... Skye didnt let him finished his sentence. So, what are we going to do for the next hour? I can think of something, Ned said with a sheepish grin. She looked over at him. She knew what he was thinking by the look on his face. You hit your head pretty hard, I wouldnt want you to ummm....I wouldnt want anything to happen to you while we were...yeah...you know what I mean. Ok, well, I guess we could talk then. Sure. Conversation. Keep the brain in check, she said. Um, what should we talk about? Weve already discussed Kristina and my parents. What was Lucky doing here, Ned asked. He was checking in with my father, and he was here and we had all that food. V invited him to join us. What do you think about him and V? What?!? I was just thinking, Skye started. Ned interrupted her. I wouldnt go down that road. Tell me about this Simon person, then. What happened between him and V? V was pretending to be Contessa Isabella Castillo to help Jax rebuild his fortune after he and his brother and father were arrested... AJ was on the balcony outside of his bedroom. He was talking on his cell phone. Yes, thank you. He put his phone away. What was that about, Alexis asked, as she walked out there. Our plans in motion, AJ explained. Neds going out of town next week and thats when Im going to move in on Skye. Everything is coming together. ...So anyhow he was smitten with her. He came to Port Charles professing his love and proposing to her. He filled the mansion with flowers. The mansion? He didnt know where V lived or even what her name was, but he knew Chloe and the fact that she knew V, so he sent them to the house. Anyhow, Jax and Chloe managed to come up with some sort of agreement between V and Simon. I think he agreed to quit proposing to her, if she would go to the Nurses Ball with him. So, she did. There was kind of a whirlwind courtship and Simon asked her to go on a cruise around the world with him. She agreed and the rest as they say is history. What happened? As I understand it, V wasnt exactly comfortable with the carefree life style. She and Simon grew apart. But they parted on good terms. And now hes with Brenda, Skye said. Another road we shouldnt go down, Ned said. Ok, she said, struggling to come up with another subject. Can I ask you something totally unrelated then? Sure. Um, when we started this...this...this thing that we have now, you said something about both of us having already had the great love of our lives, who were you referring to? Jax, he quickly answered. She lightly slapped him on the arm. Not for me, for you. Who was the great love? I plead the fifth. And why would you do that? Well, I might have been wrong about the one great love thing, he answered. Oh? Tell you what, lets dance. I dont want to wake Kristina with the stereo. Oh. Ned stood up. I thought Id provide the music, acapella, of course. I do owe you a song. He smiled at her. She looked up at him. I sing, we dance. I hold you, you hold the ice pack to my head. Ok. Skye giggled. I think I can manage that. Skye stood up in front of Ned. She took a hold of the ice pack, making sure to hold it close to his head. He put his arms around her waist and pulled her in closely. He stared into her eyes, as he softly sang, and they danced. Steel on velvet, silk on stone Sun-warm leather set against chrome You're a contrast to what I've become No one has touched me like you Like you Red horizon at day's end Brushing scarlet over your skin Blushing places I long to kiss No one has touched me like you Like you You in my arms breathless and sure A barefoot ballet on a bare hardwood floor So much in sync it seems that we barely move No one has touched me like you Like you White lace curtain opened wide Single candle tremblin' with light My bold passion suddenly shy No one has touched me like you Like youon velvet, silk on stone |

Chapter 20 | ||

Thanks for the replies.
Before I post I have to say how great was that scene with Skye, Ned, and Kristina yesterday. I loved it! I'm starting to fall for this couple. Anyways, on with my story. Chapter 20 Skye came downstairs the next morning to hear V in the kitchen with Kristina. Come on, cooperate with me, huh, V pleaded, as Kristina cried. Skye walked into the kitchen, and immediately went to Kristina. Morning, princess. Whats wrong, huh? She picked her up and held her close, calming the child down. I...I was just trying to feed her, and she...well, we had a little disagreement, I guess, V said. Its ok. Skye slowly put Kristina in her high chair. Were kind of cranky today, arent we, Kristina? She looked over at V. She woke up a couple of times in the middle of the night. Skye closed her eyes a couple of times in the middle of her thoughts and tiredness. I think shes just a little upset about her daddys business trips. Skye looked over at her sister and noticed she was dressed. She had a bowl of cereal, a glass of orange juice, and the newspaper sitting in front of her. Dont tell me. Youre a morning person? V nodded. Ned came in. Good morning. Look, V, if you want, there is a big breakfast spread up at the house that beats a bowl of cold cereal. No. Im fine with the Cheerios. V leaned over and began to ear her cereal. Well, I have to go up there and fill grandfather in on my trip. Ned put his suit jacket on. He kissed Skye on the cheek, then Kristina. Bye. He left. V finished her bowl of cereal and drank her orange juice. I was thinking about taking a walk around the grounds. If you want, I could take Kristina with me now that shes settled down, and you could get dressed. We have something planned, Skye asked. Maybe. Well, Ill go shower and get dressed. And Kristina and I will go out and smell the roses. Grandfather, I dont understand it myself. They have been throwing up all sorts of roadblocks along the way. But this is it, I go back next week, and the deal will be sealed. Then I can spend more time with my daughter so she doesnt forget who I am. AJ stood outside the door to the den, smirking. Alexis walked out to the rose garden to see V walking through with a stroller. She rushed over to her. Hi, she said. V looked up to see, Alexis. Oh, sweetheart, Alexis said, looking down in the stroller at her daughter. She quickly picked her up. I...Ive missed you so much, she cried. Mommy loves you so much. Alexis, I dont think this is a good idea. Im her mother, Alexis said rather forcefully. I know that. I do. And I respect that, believe me, I do. But youve done some things that I dont understand completely and I know that you arent supposed to visit Kristina, theres a court order. So, Im just not sure about this, Alexis. Youre defending Skye! Sure she saved your life and all. And she is your sister. I guess I understand that. But if you knew what she had done, I dont think you would be quite so quick to defend her. Alexis put Kristina back in the stroller. Skye is an alcoholic, Alexis began her rant, Shes a master manipulator, a liar, and a kidnapper. She kidnapped Kristina, and for some reason Ned just let her waltz into his life to play house. Probably because he is letting something other than his brain do the thinking now. Alexis...I dont condone kidnapping or any other crime for that matter. But I dont know why you think Skye is to blame for you not being able to see your daughter. You were the one who killed a man, albeit in self defense. You were the one who faked mental illness. You were the one who dressed up as a butler, committing fraud and violating a court order. You know, you should be grateful youre not in prison or Ferncliffe. Now youve married AJ and you get the occasional chance to see your daughter, and every time you do, you berate Skye, and you blame her for something that is clearly not her fault. Skye is not the one who has custody of your daughter, Ned is. So get over it. Alexis stood there silently. She could not believe that V had just laid everything out there in front of her the way she had. It was the truth, too, and Alexis almost felt bad about it. V walked away, pushing the stroller with Kristina back towards the gatehouse, when she ran into Skye. Wow! That was some defense of me, she admired. But, Im not really sure that I deserved it. Alexis...she is a totally different person than I remember and I was tired of hearing her blame you for the current situation. But, V said, as she continued to walk on and Skye followed her, please tell me that she lied about you kidnapping Kristina. Rae opened her hotel room door to find Chuck standing there. Hi. She pleasantly smiled. I thought Id drive you to the airport, if thats ok with you, he asked. That would be...great. Skye and V were in Skyes car. Skye was driving. I did kidnap Kristina, she admitted. Actually, AJ and I did. It was a terribly stupid move to try and get Edward to let us back into ELQ. I regret letting everyone worry about her, but I dont regret kidnapping her. I fell in love with that little girl then. Skye. I know. I know. It was wrong. But you know, if you think thats terrible...maybe I should pull over and let you out of the car. Because if I told you about some of the other terrible things I have done, youd want to run far, far away from me. Heck, Id jump out of this car right now if I could run away from the past, Skye said, as they came up to a red light, and she stopped. Well. V nodded. The past is the past, and you just have to move on. Skye turned to look at her. Yeah. Move on. V nodded. A car horn honked. Skye looked up to see the light had changed to green. She let out a little laugh. Guess I should move on. They both laughed, as she pulled away from the intersection. Rae stood in line to get on the plane back to Llanview. Chuck stood with her. Rae went to enter the gate. Chuck gave her sweet kiss on the cheek and for that moment, she saw the young man in his naval uniform, the one from the night Skye was conceived. Ok, what are we doing here, Skye asked, as she and V stood outside The Outback, which had a huge For Sale sign on it. I used to live upstairs. V pointed up to the window of the apartment above the old restaurant. Mac told me that he was selling the place and that there were still a few things of mine in my old apartment. V found a key in one of the planters outside and went to the door. The Outback. Skye laughed, as she looked at the sign. What did they serve kangaroos and crocodiles, she joked. V went inside, Skye followed her in and upstairs. There was a box sitting by the fireplace. V sighed. She picked up the box and looked through it. Some old pictures, sketch pads, journals. She looked at Skye. I thought I got everything out of here before I left with Simon. I guess I should be glad no one else rented the place. They might have looked through one of my journals and read about my terribly boring life. Come on, lets go. They went back downstairs. V walked out quickly. Skye stood in the middle of what used to be the restaurant looking around. Hello, V called out after her. Oh, Im sorry, Skye said. This place seems to have such a life left to it. Its a shame it closed. Yeah, well, I guess it was time to move on, V joked with Skye, and they laughed. Which reminds me, I have a doctors appointment that I have to get to. Yeah. Ned strolled Kristina down to the gatehouse. I promise you that when the dust settles on this business deal that well spend so much time together, youll be sick of me. He grinned at the baby, then opened the door to the house. Now, lets find out what Skye and V are up to today. He walked over to the desk and grabbed a note that had been left. Skye and V sat in the car in parking garage of the hospital. So what happens now that youve gotten a clean bill of health, she asked. I can go back to my regular routine. I can go back to work. Ill still have to have regular check ups, but everything else can go back to normal, V explained. Um. Skye looked out the window on her side of the car, pretending to notice something off in the distance. She really didnt want to ask the question, but she felt like she had to. You think youll go back to Rochester? I do have a good job there and a home. You have a place to stay in Port Charles. Always. I cant live with you and Ned forever. Sounds like youve made up your mind. No. I havent. Skye turned towards her sister. I have to be honest with you. I dont want you to leave. I just found my sister, my new best friend, and I dont want to lose that. Skye smiled through her tears. You wont, no matter where I am. Rochester isnt that far from Port Charles. But things happen without warning. I mean...I...it just seems like right now you have every reason to stay here. A while later... Skye and V came back to the gatehouse. Ned looked at both of them. Something wrong, he asked. No. V sighed. Everything is great. The doctor gave me the go ahead to go back to normal activities, including work. Thats perfect, Ned said with a smile. |

Chapter 21 | ||

I'm going to be going out of town later this week. So, I won't be posting on a regular basis for probably two weeks or so. I'm going to be helping my sister pack and drive her half way across the country for school, so I'll be kind of busy. I will try and post as many chapters as I can on Tuesday.
That'll give some of you a chance to catch up with the story. Chapter 21 Its perfect, Skye asked in anger. Shes thinking about going back to Rochester, she blurted out. Oh, well, um, she could do that, Ned said as though he had another idea. Ned, V asked. I have an offer that I dont think you can refuse, he said. What are you the Godfather, V joked. No. In Port Charles, that role is permanently reserved for Sonny Corinthos. But, V, I am serious. Jax was walking up to the gatehouse. He saw Vs box of things sitting at the door, so he picked it up. Hmmm. He knocked on the door. Skye opened the door, as Ned was in the midst of his sales pitch. Were talking complete control of L&B. Three times what you were making in Rochester. Youll be close to your family, and your pal over there. He pointed over at Jax. You can stay here as long as you need to. Have full access to anything on the grounds. I dont think you could ask for anything more. What about Eddie Maine, V asked. What about him, Ned said. Oh, please, no, V. Dont even suggest it, Jax said. I mean, I think that I have heard enough of Neds warbling. Gee thanks, Ned said. Besides I came here to offer you a job, Jax said to V. He put Vs box on the desk. This was outside. Jax turned and stared at Ned. I want to hire V as my personal assistant. Double whatever Neds offered. A suite at the Port Charles Hotel, all of your meals charged to me, and... Jax thought for a moment. ...spa treatments once a week, he said with a grin. Plus, you wont have to listen to Neds singing CEO routine. I kind of like his singing CEO routine, V said. Oh, ok, Jax said. Well, Im flexible, you could listen to his racket on a CD. You were the best assistant I ever had. Well, thank you, V said. I am very flattered both of you and Im overwhelmed. V looked at Ned, then Jax, then Ned, then Jax. Then she looked over at Skye, who shrugged, not knowing what to think of the whole situation. I am going to need some time to think this over. So, I cant make a decision right now. Ok? Sure, Ned said. Agreed, Jax said. So, Jax, is there some other reason youre here, Ned asked. Dinner. What about it, Ned asked. I was hoping that I could treat the three of you to dinner at the Grill, Jax said. Sounds great, V said. I want to spend some time with Kristina before I go out of town, again. But Skye, why dont you go with them, Ned suggested. No. Actually, I have some plans, Skye said. Ned had a curious look on his face, as did Jax and V. Jax turned to V. Ok, well, lets go. No negotiating any deals, ok, Ned said. Sure, Jax said. Why dont I believe you, Ned said. Jax laughed and left with V. Ned turned to Skye. Ok, what are you up to? I have some things to do through. She walked over to the desk, where the box was sitting. Whats that? Some of Vs stuff. Snooping? Its not like I am going to read her journal or something. Im just going to look through this shoe box of old photos. Ok, well, Im just going to be upstairs with Kristina, pretending that I know nothing about what youre doing. Ned left the room. Skye took the shoe box and walked over to the couch, where she sat and started to look through the pictures. Hey there, my little angel, Ned said, as he picked up Kristina and sat down on the nursery floor with her. She started to crawl around the room, as he happily watched. He sighed, thinking about everything that he had missed out on with Brook Lynn, including watching her crawl. Skye shuffled through Vs pictures. She found some of her sister as a little girl, some with her parents. Their father was a very handsome man, and Vs mother was a beautiful blonde woman. They looked like a happy little family. Then Skye came to a picture of a teenage V with a blonde hair, blue eyed boy sitting on a porch swing, holding hands. She found another picture of the two that looked like a prom picture. Skye continued to sort through the rest of the pictures, not coming across any more with the boy or with Vs mother. She came to the last picture, which was stuck to the bottom of the shoe box. It was the family, again, but in the picture Vs mother was pregnant. Skye studied the picture for awhile, remembering that V said she was an only child. V and Jax walked over to Jaxs usual table at the Grill. The maitred came over with two menus. Mr. Jacks. Thanks Henry. Your waiter will be with you in a few minutes, Henry said, then left. V opened the menu, and then closed it. Why do they always give you a menu. I mean, by now, you must have it memorized. Jax put his menu down and tapped on the cover. Yeah. So, tell me are you really considering going back to work for Ned at L&B? Ah, I believe that you and Ned had a gentlemans agreement on any negotiations, Jax. So, maybe we shouldnt discuss the situation, except for me to ask you one question. Whats that? Was your job offer serious, or were you just trying to one up Ned? Ned came downstairs with Kristina in his arms. Im starved. How do you feel about having some of that left over pizza, he asked Skye, as he walked into the kitchen. Skye was still looking at the picture, not really paying much attention to what Ned said. Sure. Skye went over to the box of Vs things. She grabbed one of the journals, contemplating opening it. But, she stopped herself, thinking about how she would feel if someone invaded her privacy. She put the journal back in the box. She went into the kitchen, where Kristina was in her high chair, and Ned was putting the pizza in the oven. Do you know how long it takes to reheat a pizza in the oven, he asked. I think it says on the side of the box, she replied. Ned picked up the box from the counter and looked at it. Here we go. He set the timer and sat down at the table. I hope pepperoni is ok. Sure. Ned noticed the picture in Skyes hand. What do you have there? Skye slid the picture across the table to him. Ned looked at it. A picture. Im going to assume this little girl is V. Yeah. She was a cute kid. Ned, look at the picture. I am. Closely. What am I supposed to be seeing? Some hidden message or something? No. Vs mother, look at her. Shes pregnant. Ned looked up at Skye. Yeah? V was an only child, or so she told me. Do you know anything about her childhood? No. Its never come up. But Skye, maybe this is something that she doesnt feel like talking about. Maybe. But she still wondered what the deal was. Jax and V were at the Grill, eating their dinner. Maybe a little of both, Jax said. But V, I was serious when I said you were the best assistant Ive ever had, you know that, dont you? V laughed, not sure if he was telling the truth about being the best assistant. Thanks. You are one of the best friends Ive ever had. Youve done so much for me. You did a lot for me, too. You were there when Brenda went back to Sonny, you were there when I thought that I had lost her. Ill never forget the support that you gave me. Jax took a bite of his food. I just wish you had been here when I messed everything up. Maybe if you had been here, I wouldnt have done those stupid things that I did. I wouldnt have hurt Skye. V took a drink. You regret the way things ended? Jax took a long swig of his champagne. I regret that it ended at all. Jax? Did I just say that outloud? Yes. Jax poured himself another glass of champagne and downed it, and poured another. |

Chapter 22 | ||
|
Ok, all I could manage to get done was one chapter. I really wanted to have more done before I left. Hopefully, I'll get some writing done on the way out to California.
Anyhow, thanks for all your great replies, thusfar. Chapter 22 V hadnt ever seen Jax drunk, at least not like last night. And in the midst of his drinking, he told her all sorts of things. How he hated himself for what he had done and what he had done to suppress his feelings. She couldnt believe it, but he had hired prostitutes to pass the time with. It just wasnt like him. It was obvious he was in a tail spin, and it was on going. He confirmed Vs suspicions that he was still in love with Skye, and he also told her that he made a mistake with Brenda. That things werent the same between them when he returned to her. He told her about how he felt a sense of obligation. He had made a promise first to Brenda, and once Skye had lied to him, he felt like he was obligated to Brenda, especially since she wasnt really dying. But it had all been a mistake. V shook her head as she sat on the couch in Jaxs suite. She had spent the night on the couch after getting him up to his room, which wasnt a very easy task. She was afraid that he might do something destructive, and she knew he would need some major help getting himself ready to face the day, thats why she had stayed. Skye held Kristina, as she knocked on the guest room door. Hey sis, you awake? She slowly opened the door to find the bed made. Skye suspected it hadnt been slept in. Thats strange. Whats strange, Ned asked from down the hall, as he walked to Skye. V hasnt slept in her bed. Shes probably already up. Maybe. Did you hear her come in last night? No. They go downstairs. V! Maybe she went out for breakfast or a morning run or something, Ned suggested. Maybe. Skye handed Kristina over to Ned. She went over to the desk and picked up the phone. Hi. Yes, this is Skye. Could you tell me if Mr. Jacks came back through the gate last night...Mmm...my sister didnt come back through at all?...Nobody came through the gate after they left...ok...thank you. Skye hung up. She didnt come home last night, she said to Ned. Tell you what, Ned said, you and Kristina get yourselves some breakfast. Ned handed Kristina back to her. And Ill find out whats going on. Skye went into the kitchen with Kristina. Ned called after Skye. Hey, whats her cell phone number? I dont know, Skye called back. Ok. Ned sighed and picked up the phone. V was sitting on the couch at Jaxs suite when the phone rang. She debated answering it, and then it stopped ringing. Jax rolled over with one hand to his head. Hello, he quietly said in a gruff fashion. Jax, you sound like hell, Ned said on the other end of the line. Please, dont yell, Ashton. Im not yelling, he replied. Jax sat up in bed. You could have fooled me. You and V have some sort of party last night? I..., Jax started, but his head was killing him and he couldnt remember much of what happened the night before, What are you calling about? Im looking for my sister-in-law. Oh, I, Ned, I dont know where she is. Why? Shes didnt come home last night. Oh... Jax tried to remember what happened. He hung up the phone and slowly got up out of bed. His head felt like someone had dropped a ton of bricks on it. He grabbed his robe and put it on. He walked out into the living room to find V sitting there on the couch. There was a room service tray sitting there with a pot of coffee. Youre here? She turned to him. Morning, she softly said. That was Ned on the phone. He and Skye are looking for you. Oh, I guess I should have called them, but I... Jax cut her off. Hey. Thanks for, he sighed, for getting me back up here last night. Im sure that I was terrible company. Its ok. V stood. I had room service send up coffee. Its fresh brewed. Take care of yourself. Thanks, he said. She started for the door. Before you go I have to ask you something. She turned back to him. Sure. What? What did I tell you last night? You told me about some things that you regret. Oh, he said, realizing what he had confessed. Can you keep our conversation just between the two of us? Of course. Thank you. Youre welcome. Ok, thank you, Henry. Ned hung up the phone. He tapped his fingers on the desk. After what he had just learned, he wasnt sure what he was going to tell Skye. Skye came back in the room with Kristina in her arms. Did you find anything out? Yes. Well? Your sister spent the night at the hotel. Oh. So, no need to worry. The front door opened and V walked in. Hi. She innocently waved. See no need to worry, Ned said. Im so sorry, V said. I should have called you last night, but by the time I thought about it, it was so late, and I didnt want to wake you guys or Kristina. I hope you didnt worry. No, Skye said, lying. I...I was just a little surprised when you werent here this morning. Im sorry. Its ok. Youre not obligated to be here and you dont have some sort of curfew or anything. Uh, anyhow, I was just going to get Kristina ready to go to the park. You wanna go with us, Skye asked V, as she started up the stairs. Sure, Ill just change, V called out. Ok, Skye said, as she reached the top of the stairs. V started towards the staircase, when Ned stopped her. Ned? Skye was worried about you...and I called Jax. Yes? I also called the hotel and talked to the Grill manager. He told me about Jax getting sloshed, knocking things over, and causing a scene in the restaurant. What happened? Nothing, Ned. He just had too much to drink, V said. Oh, is that the story? Ned studied her, he could tell she wasnt being one-hundred percent honest. I also know that the hotel gossip is saying that you spent the night in Jaxs suite. Oh god. Look, you can tell me what happened or you can keep it to yourself. But Jax just doesnt behave like this. I cant tell you, Ned, V said. Skye stood at the top of the stairs, having heard her sister and wonder what it was she couldnt tell him. I promised. Ok, ok. I just hope there isnt a repeat. Im pretty sure that, uh, nothing happened. Nothing did. Now, Im going to change. Jax sat in his hotel suite, nursing his coffee, looking out the window. He had business meetings scheduled for the day, but he canceled them all. He couldnt believe he had told V everything. Just when he had felt like he was starting to get his feelings under control, they exploded. His real reason for the spontaneous family gathering he arranged and the dinner invitation was so that he could see Skye. So he could see her smile, hear her laugh, maybe come close to touching her. As he stared out the window, the bright sunny day, quickly turned black and the rain began to come down in sheets. Skye and V came rushing into the gatehouse with Kristina. I told you that it was about to rain, V said. Tell me how did you know it was going to rain? I mean, one minute its perfectly sunny and the birds are chirping, and then the next its dark as night and theres a torrential down pour. I could smell it in the air. Oh, really? Well, Ive got to get Kristina upstairs and changed into some dry clothes. Skye went upstairs. V sat down at the desk and picked up the shoe box with her pictures. She pulled out the family picture, which was sitting on the top. She stared at it for several minutes. Skye came back downstairs. I think our little race back home wore Kristina out. As soon as I changed her clothes, she fell asleep. Skye sat on the arm of the couch. V started to put the picture back in the box. Something you wanna talk about? V looked over at her. No. Uh, I should take this stuff upstairs. You dont have to. Its in the way. Ill take it upstairs. V picked up the box and went upstairs. Skye watched her and was troubled by what her sister seemed to be hiding. Jax had sat there in his room watching the rain all day long. He was lost in it. There was a knock at his door.
