Just keep a couple of things in mind when you read it. I started writing this story about a week. Before the whole Dobson debacle was ended. Also, things aren't always what they seem. And the person at the end of this chapter, probably isn't who you think it is.
For the most part this story involves Skye, Ned, Jax. There is going to be a surprise character from the past thrown in, and the whole Kristina paternity thing will be dealt with at some point in the story.
Jax walked up to the front door of the Quartermaine mansion. He paused on the stoop, as the rain poured down on him. He took a deep breath. He had been looking for Ned all over. He had gone to the new gatehouse only to find a couple of decorators. Jax put his hand on the doorknob and opened the door. He surveyed the foyer, there was a group of people gathered. He spotted Ned across the room. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a woman in white at the top of the stairs. He had something to tell Ned, and he was focused on that. He headed towards Ned, walking behind Emily and Georgie who were patiently waiting for something. Before Jax made it over to Ned, a bouquet of flowers made their way into his hands, shocking him and everyone else that was gathered.
The woman at the top of the stairs twirled around, wondering what all the silence was about. She stood there and looked down. Skye could not believe it, Jax was there. Jax?!
Always one to make an entrance, eh, Jax? AJ joked, as Jax looked confused.
Scott was standing next to AJ. I give it a seven, unless we get a good fist fight out of the deal, he cracked.
Jax looked up at Skye, then over to Ned. Ned smiled at him. It all clicked in Jaxs head, but it didnt make much sense to him. Before he could get to Ned, Edward pulled him into the den. You know, if you had been here twenty minutes ago, I would have rejoiced.
Excuse me, Jax said still trying to digest what he had just seen.
Maybe you could have talked some sense into Ned. Edward crossed his arms and stocked around the room. But, no, as you can see, its too late. Ned married Skye. Skye. Geez, she was his cousin for pitys sake!
Jax walked over to the bar and poured himself a glass of water. He turned back to Edward and took a sip. But, Edward they arent cousins, and they never really were.
Edward clinched his jaw. You dont know why they got married, humph, do you?
Jax drank some more water. I wouldnt know about that. I didnt even know they were getting married until I turned and saw Skye at the top of the stairs. Jax lingered on that
moment. He was silent for a moment. He walked to Edward. One would presume that they married because they were in love. Jax wondered how their feelings could have
changed so much in the span of a few short months, but maybe they had.
No. No. This is about that poor little girl. My great granddaughter. Skye cant have children of her own, so she has decided to take up with Ned and become Kristinas
mother. Edward flails his hand in the air.
Kristina has a mother!
You dont have to tell me that! Edward walked over to the bar and poured himself a brandy. Alexis isnt any happier about this union than I am. Edward studied Jax, who
still looked confused. Or maybe you are.
Jax rubbed his temples. Edward was giving him a major headache. You know what, Edward? Ned and Skye are adults. Whatever they decide to do is their business. Now, I
had something I wanted to speak to Ned about.
Jax walked out, with Edward following behind, just in time to see Ned and Skye in the midst of a hot and steamy kiss. Jax turned back to Edward. On second thought, I can talk
to Ned at another time.
Nonsense. You came here in the middle of a major thunderstorm. Whatever it is you have to tell Ned, it must be of some importance, Edward says in his statesman like manner.
Skye and Ned finally broke from their kiss. The room applauded the two. Skye looked Jaxs way, wondering why he was there and what he and Edward were just talking about.
Suddenly, in the midst of her thoughts, Jax started to approach Skye and her new husband.
Jax, Im sorry that we didnt send you an invitation, Ned said with a smile. But we didnt have any clue where exactly you were.
Jax shrugged. I have been a little bit of everywhere. The three of them let out a small laugh. Jax held up the bouquet. Sorry about this. It was a reflex reaction. I just saw
something coming towards me, and I caught it. He handed Skye the bouquet. I must say, Im kind of surprised about this. Jax gestured towards Skye and Ned. I leave town
for a few months and you two are suddenly married. Jax smiled. He looked at Ned and Skye. To him the two did not look like a couple, but then Ned picked up Kristina from her
stroller, and suddenly Skye looked as though she was part of a little family. Hello Kristina. Its your uncle Jax. He smiled at the baby. You know, youre a very lucky little girl.
Yes. She is. Ned smiled at Skye. He turned to Jax. So, tell me what was that between you and grandfather?
He just wanted to know what I was doing here, Jax told them.
Oh, Skye said. So, why are you here in the midst of a storm?
I had something to tell Ned, Jax said. Ned stood there waiting for Jax to finish. But, now isnt the time. We can discuss it once the two of you get back from your
honeymoon.
Uh, Ned started, well be honeymooning at the gatehouse. Grandfather still has custody of Kristina and neither of us want to be separated from her for that long.
Yeah. Jax stroked Kristinas head, as he looked at her. He kissed Kristina on the cheek.
He gave Ned a pat on the shoulder. Congratulations.
Thanks, Ned replied.
Jax turned to Skye. He hugged her. I hope that you will be happy. He kissed her on the cheek, then walked out.
Skye stood there a bit puzzled by what Jax wanted to tell Ned. She wondered why he didnt just tell him. She also was curious as to his internal response to her marriage, but
she knew she would never get that.
Im kind of curious myself, Ned said.
Huh? Skye raised an eyebrow. Then she hugged Ned. Please, dont tell me that I married a mind reader, she joked.
Youd be in so much trouble if you had done that, wouldnt you? They both laughed.
Ned put Kristina in her stroller. I love you, sweetheart. He looked back up at Skye. What do you say we blow this popsicle stand?
Hmmm...Sounds good.
Ned picked up a glass and fork from a nearby table. He tapped on the glass with the fork to get everyones attention. If youll excuse Skye and myself, we would like to thank you all for being here to celebrate with us, and were anxious to get started on the wedding night. Ned pulled Skye to the door.
Skye tossed the bouquet back and this time it landed in Emilys hands. Zander smiled at Emily. Edward rolled his eyes.
Skye and Ned rushed down to the gatehouse in the midst of the storm. Ned found a note taped to the door. The two took refuge under the overhang, as Ned read it. Since you
couldnt make it to the tropics, we brought the tropics to you. Congratulations, Zander and Emily.
Ned, open the door, Skye pleaded with him. Before I get struck by lightning, again.
Again? Well, well, Mrs. Ashton, you have really piqued my interest, Ned said, grinning.
Come on!
Ok. Ned opened the door, then scooped Skye up in his arms. Youll have to tell me about that some time.
They got inside and shut the door. Ned put Skye down and turned on the lights. Hawaiian music began to play. The room had several palm trees sitting in different positions. Well,
I guess that outside is our tropical storm then.
I guess. Ned stepped down from the landing to discover the floor covered with sand. I think Im going to have to kill Zander and Emily, he joked, as he took his shoes and
socks off.
Ah, come on. Skye laughed. Get in the spirit of it. Skye threw her shoes off. Granted its going to take one hell of a vacuum cleaner to suck all of this up, but thats what maids
are for, right? Ned smiled. Skye walked over to the table and picked up two lais that had been left there. I intend to enjoy this. Just you and me...with nothing but our lais on.
Skye threw one of them to Ned.
Sounds good. Ned put the lai on, tossed his jacket, and began to unbutton his shirt. He walked over to Skye and began to unzip her dress.
Jax walked up to the hospital room door. He slowly opened it, so not to wake her. He looked at her as she slept. She hadnt quite been herself since he had met back up with her. He knew that something was wrong from the very first second, but he thought maybe it was stress, so he offered her a trip to Malibu with him. He couldnt believe that she had said, Yes. Maybe subconsciously she knew that something was wrong, that something bad was about to happen or was already happening to her.
Jax shrugged, as he walked out of the room, thinking about what had transpired on their vacation. God, why? He looked up to heavens, as if to ask for the answer. The only answer he got back was the flash of the hospital lights as the power went out and the backup generator kicked on.
